From Ricardo to you all..

Estaré de vacaciones desde el próximo día 16 de Diciembre hasta el 17 de Enero, fecha en la que me reincorporo. Les deseo una felicísima Navidad y un muy próspero año nuevo, agradeciéndoles mucho la paciencia y amabilidad demostrada. El correo y los periódicos seguirán funcionando como siempre gracias a la ayuda de Virginia y Agustín. Maribel, la enfermera, recogerá las medicinas. Podéis apuntaros para cita médica con Antonio Lara arriba en su consulta. Muchísimas gracias por todo.

I will be on holidays from the 16^th  December until the 17^th  January. I wish you a merry Christmas and a very happy and joyful New Year, and I would really like to thank you all for your patience and good will towards us the staff. Post will be collected by Virginia as well as the papers, with the help of Agustín. Maribel, the nurse, will collect the medicines when needed; you can book an appointment with the doctor, Antonio Lara, at his room at the clinic. Thank you very much to all.

Tips for the staff / Propinas para el personal

All of those who are resident at Sol Andalusí will know that Albert Isaac used to make a collection at Christmas for the staff.  Lise Andersen (pictured above) would like you to know that she is making the collection this year.  Some people say that they would rather give a tip to individuals themselves but it should be remembered that this can mean that the less visible members of staff get forgotten.  Lise is in the bar area for coffee every week day and invites you to make a contribution.

Mi primera pelicula - My first film

Aqui, por fin, mi pelicula...

El castillo hinchable en la plaza puede ser molesto para algunos pero más peor cuando los niños estan gritando hasta medianoche. El restaurante de Sol Andalusi tiene que tener algún atractivo para las familias, y tampoco espera causar tanto ruido como la Feria de Málaga. 

Sagesa ha enviado una carta de queja de la comunidad por el asunto a Sol Andalusi pero está todavía sin respuesta.

La pelicula es muy corta, pues, no cierra los ojos.  La pelicula habia hecho en el 9 octubre y la misma cosa ocurrío la semana siguiente. Pero el sabado pasado habia un evento en el teatro y con las puertas cerradas (porque hacia frio) el ruido quedó dentro. Todo bien. 

Y con el tema de peliculas, sentimos los problemas con la television en Giralda que últimos días no ha dado el señal y seguirá así algún día más. Ya están los técnicos avisados, y a la espera de reparación, igual que alarma de incendios. Hemos liquidado pagos pendientes así que ya no tienen razón para no venir.

Here is the film I promised...

A bouncy castle located in our central plaza during the day is awful but now we have had to put up with screaming children until midnight.  Sol Andalusí need to attract people to their restaurant, but being in our square some nights is like being at Málaga fair.  On occasion there have been: live music blaring out from the bar, large parties in the salon on the ground floor of Alcazaba and a wedding in the Theatre simultaneously.  

Sagesa wrote a letter on behalf of the community to complain to the management about the noise but have not received a reply.

This is only a very short movie, so don't blink or you'll miss it.  This was filmed on 9th October and the same thing occurred the following week. But last Saturday there was a dinner in the Theatre and as it was cold and the doors were closed the sound was contained and I have no problem with that.

Talking about films, I am sorry to learn that there is no Spanish TV in Giralda.  We have now settled the account with the repair people and Ricardo is making an appointment and the same goes for the smoke alarm people.  They wouldn't come as the bills had not been paid, but we had just enough to pay up.

Lamento no haber podido actualizar el blog los ultimos días. Estamos celebrando varias reuniones de comunidad de cuales os mantendré informado una vez resumido todo. He estado muy ocupada e incluso he estado fuera algunos días. Le adjunto el link para el horario del bus local con la parada cerca de campo de futbol, el que va al pueblo, aeropuerto y Malaga, llega muy punctual, algunas veces incluso unos minutos antes.

So sorry not to have added anything to the blog for a while.  We are in the process of having several community meetings and I will inform you once we have some results.  So I have been busy, also I had to go away for a few days.  I thought it might be useful  to have a link the timetable for the local bus which stops on the road at the bottom of Sol Andalusi (near the football field).  It goes the village, the airport and Malaga.  I have been told it is punctual, sometimes even early!

A chill in the air / Hace fresco

A lo largo de la semana que del 8 al 14 de Noviembre se procederá al cambio de modo en la climatización del edificio central, y se pondrá en modo Invierno.

During the week of 8^th to 14^th November the central aircon system will be switched to Winter mode.

Plans for the post

Ricardo y yo hemos estado comentando sobre formas alternativas de maximizar su tiempo de trabajo. Vamos a intentar que vaya al pueblo solo un par de veces en semana en vez de todos los días, a ver si así puede estar más tiempo en la oficina.

Actualmente el se va a el pueblo sobre las 10:45 a.m. a recoger el correo, a por los periódicos y la farmacia a recoger los medicamentos. El problema es que esa es la hora mas conveniente para los residentes para que él esté en la oficina y puedan contactarle. Para ello vamos a hacer lo siguiente:

§        Vamos a poner un buzón en la garita de seguridad para que Correos deje allí las cartas. Desgraciadamente, Correos no entra a repartir en nuestro complejo.

§        Ricardo irá a Correos los martes y jueves para poder así recoger los paquetes grandes o aquello que requiera de firma. Asimismo estos dos días irá a por los periódicos y a la farmacia.

El resto de los días esperemos que Agustín nos pueda ayudar con los periódicos, ya que él va al pueblo a diario; considerad que el horario de entrega de los periódicos esos días estará sujeto a la disponibilidad de Agustín, no habrá garantía de hora de entrega.

Ricardo and I have been talking about alternative ways he could be spending his time.  We are going to carry out a trial to see if it is generally better if he visits the town only two days a week rather than five.
At the moment,  he has to go off to the town just around 10.45am to get to the post office, collect the newspapers and collect medicines from the chemist;  but that is just the time many people are thinking they will pop in and see Ricardo or give him a call.

• We are going to put a letter box in the security office by the main entrance gate so that the Correos can deliver.  Unfortunately the Correos cannot, or will not deliver inside the gate.
• On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Ricardo will go to the Post Office to collect any larger parcels or post that needs to be signed for and also collect newspapers and go to the chemist

As for as newspapers on the other days,  it is hoped that Agustín will collect as he goes to the town daily, but there will be no guarantee as to what time the newspapers will arrive.

Ideas Please /Ideas por favor

Now that the clocks have gone back and the nights start earlier I was thinking about how I missed the cinema nights we used to have.  I had a brief chat with Chechu on Tuesday about whether we could re-introduce this and also whether there were other offers that Sol Andalusí could make to owners and renters.   His suggestion is that we need to tell them what kind of thing would interest us.  It makes sense to first find out what would appeal to residents, both owners and renters, and then they can consider our suggestions.

Please send me an email if you have any ideas with regard to the cinema, the restaurant, the bar, the spa, the gym, the pool or anything else.  I was talking to Eduardo, manager of the restaurant... see below for his photo for those of you who don't know him...and he would love to hear what he can do to entice you into the restaurant and bar.  We talked about Menu del día and possible specials that could be offered in addition to A la carte, just for residents.   But he needs to know what you would like.

He has organised a couple of dinner events, I will let you know more soon.

Would you go to the bar more often if there was a happy hour every day?  Would you prefer half price drinks rather than two for the price of one? 

With something like the cinema there would have to be a small charge to cover opening up, closing, the cleaning, DVD rental and the cost of the projection bulb when it burns out etc.  It would be good if someone could volunteer to take responsibility for the hire and selection of the films.

Would more of you go to the gym, pool or spa if there were some sort of incentive?  But what incentives would make you go?

Ahora que se han retrasado los relojes y anochece antes, me estoy acordando de esas noches de cine de las que solíamos disfrutar. El martes tuve una breve charla con Chechu sobre la posibi9lidad de volver a disfrutar de esto y otra serie de actividades que Sol Andalusí podría ofrecernos tanto a dueños como a inquilinos. Su sugerencia fue que sería mucho mas práctico si le hacemos saber que es lo que nos interesaría para así intentar llevarlo a la práctica. La verdad es que tiene sentido que sea así, mandarles una serie de sugerencias con nuestros intereses para su consideración.

Por favor mándame un e-mail con tus sugerencias sobre cine, restaurante, bar, spa, gimnasio, piscina o cualquier otra cosa. Estuve hablando con Eduardo, responsable del Restaurante … así es como lo describiría para aquellos que no le conocéis….y le encantaría atender cualquier sugerencia que venga de nuestra parte para hacernos mas atractivo el restaurante y el bar. Hemos hablado sobre Menú del Día y la posibilidad de ofertar especialidades añadidas a la carta, pero exclusivamente para residentes. Pero necesitaría saber que es lo que os gustaría.

Ya ha organizado un par de cenas temáticas, os daré mas detalles pronto.

¿Irías al bar mas a menudo si pusieran “Hora Feliz” todos los días? ¿Preferirías que pusieran los precios de las bebidas a la mitad en vez de un dos por uno?

Para poder llevar a cabo la idea de las proyecciones de cine, habría que pagar una pequeña cantidad para cubrir los costes de apertura y cierre de la sala, limpieza, alquiler de DVD, desgaste de material (la lámpara del proyector tiene vida limitada y es cara). Sería estupendo si alguien se ofreciera voluntario para seleccionar las películas y hacerse un poco cargo de la organización en general.

¿Usarías más el gimnasio, la piscina o el spa si hubiera más incentivos para ello? ¿Que tipo de incentivos te harían usarlo mas a menudo?

A meeting and a half / Una reunion en dos partes

Bonnie, Ronnie, G Der Kinderen, G Salters,  and I were joined by Jose Luis from Sagesa yesterday for a productive meeting which we finished this morning.
I hope to add a fuller document with your next invoice from Sagesa in a few days but in the meantime here are a few words about some of the topics discussed.

• Although some fees have been trickling in we are still owed hundreds of thousands by owners and that does not include Sol Andalusi SA.  If you have said you will make a payment,  please do so right now. 
• Any of you who were present at the EGM on 19 September will be pleased to know that we have now sent out Burofaxes and also have contracted a UK based company to chase the debts of five  people resident overseas, who between them owe €46,600.  
• Jose Luis has agreed that starting from end of December we will receive a quarterly statement in order to help keep track of our individual accounts.

There was much debate about the role of the Association and we are going to arrange a time next week to meet with Antonio Cifrian, President of the Association.  Both the Community board and the Association share the common objective of making amendments to the statutes and achieving a fairer allocation of costs, especially those of electricity, water and gas.  

Of course there are many other topics pending:  establishing guidelines regarding the private rental of property; our insurance cover, noise disruption from celebrations and entertainment at Sol Andalusi; medical services; security; alarms and evacuation and clarification of exactly what the Community is responsible for.  I say this because I was double shocked when I realised that not only did we have to pay to repair the glass sliding door into the bar area but that the bill was some €1700!

Ayer nos reunimos Bonnie, Ronnie, G Der Kinderen, G Salters y yo, junto con
Jose Luis de Sagesa, reunión que terminamos esta mañana y que resultó muy productiva.

A pesar de que algo de la morosidad pendiente se ha estado pagando, seguimos teniendo una morosidad de cientos de miles de euros de propietarios, y ello no incluye a Sol Andalusí S.A. Si usted se ha comprometido a pagar, por favor hágalo de inmediato. Aquellos de los que estuvieron presentes en la Junta Extraordinaria del 19 de sept. estarán encantados de saber que ya se han enviado burofaxes y se ha contratado una empresa especializada basada en el Reino Unido para que persiga a 5 propietarios morosos que residen en el extranjero, los cuales suman una deuda total de 46.600€.
José Luis se ha comprometido a enviar un extracto de cuentas trimestralmente para que sirva de ayuda al seguimiento de las cuentas de cada propietario de forma individual.

Espero poder adjuntar a la próxima factura de Sagesa un documento mas completo con un resumen de los temas tratados en la reunión; por ahora voy a intentar transmitir una pequeña introducción a los mismos.

Ha habido mucho debate sobre el papel de la Asociación y vamos a organizar una reunión con D. Antonio Cifrián, presidente de la Asociación, para la semana que viene. Tanto la Junta directiva de la Comunidad como la Asociación tienen el objetivo común de hacer cambios en los estatutos y conseguir una mejor distribución de la asignación del gasto, especialmente del gasto en electricidad, gas y agua.

Naturalmente, quedan temas pendientes: establecer un reglamento regulador de los alquileres privados, la cobertura de nuestro seguro, el ruido que generan las celebraciones y eventos en Sol Andalusí, los servicios médicos, seguridad, alarmas y simulacro de evacuación y clarificación exacta de las responsabilidades de la Comunidad. Y digo esto no solo porque tuvimos que pagar la reparación de la puerta automática de la cafetería, sino porque la factura fue de alrededor de 1700€!

The first blog/ El primer blog

It is just over a month now since I became president of the community and there has been a lot of work to do.  At the end of October I had a meeting with John Holmes, Gerald Salters, Gerhard der Kinderen, Bonnie Bickram, Tamara Sivanandan and Ronnie Morrison who have volunteered to help with community matters.  As it was an informal meeting without an agenda, no minutes were taken.  We have another meeting on 26 October and this time we will take minutes which can be distributed to you.

José Luis at Sagesa and I have spent a lot of time going through the list of debtors and I will tell you more about our progress in my next blog.  The Association has had a meeting to discuss the next steps regarding the changing of the statutes and other related matters and very soon the minutes of that meeting will be available along with further information.

Soy presidenta desde hace un mes y todavía me queda mucho por hacer.  A finales de octubre tuve una reunión con John Holmes, Gerald Salters, Gerhard der Kinderen, Bonnie Bickram, Tamara Sivanandan and Ronnie Morrison que se ofrecieron a colaborar con las tareas de la comunidad.  Como se trataba de una reunión informal y sin agenda,  no hubo actas.  Tendremos otra reunión el 26 de octubre y esta vez sí que repartiremos actas a todos.

José Luis de Sagesa y yo hemos pasado un montón de tiempo repasando la lista de deudores,  ya os comentaré los progresos en mi siguiente blog.  La asociación mantuvo una reunión para discutir los pasos a seguir en relación con el cambio de los estatutos.   También se tocaron otros temas y muy pronto las minutas de dicha reunión estarán disponibles junto a información adicional.
